Eight years of restoration, one room at a time.
The cottage has stood on Cypress Way since 1930 — a Southern California Spanish Colonial Revival, with white stucco walls, a low-pitched roof over deep eaves and exposed rafters, a recessed entry, and the easy, horizontal lines of an early California ranch house.
When we found it, the oak floors were hiding under carpet and the garden was a promise rather than a place. We've spent the eight years since bringing it back — slowly, and always with the question: would we want to live with this? The answer is in the details — the original floors refinished by hand, blue-green shutters matched to the garden, and a kitchen stocked the way ours is, down the street.
