Slow afternoons, oak floors, and a private garden.

A 1930 Spanish Revival cottage — restored room by room with the finishes you'd choose for your own home. The kind of place you settle into for a month and don't want to leave.

No. 01
A light-filled lounge around the fireplace, with a Samsung Frame TV and deep sofas made for slow evenings.
No. 02
Step in past blue-green shutters and a brick-lined entry — the kind of front door that makes you exhale.
No. 03
A rare 80 sq ft walk-in closet — unpack completely, stay a season, and never live out of a suitcase.

Eight years of restoration, one room at a time.

The cottage has stood on Cypress Way since 1930 — a Southern California Spanish Colonial Revival, with white stucco walls, a low-pitched roof over deep eaves and exposed rafters, a recessed entry, and the easy, horizontal lines of an early California ranch house.

When we found it, the oak floors were hiding under carpet and the garden was a promise rather than a place. We've spent the eight years since bringing it back — slowly, and always with the question: would we want to live with this? The answer is in the details — the original floors refinished by hand, blue-green shutters matched to the garden, and a kitchen stocked the way ours is, down the street.

So many thoughtful touches, from the snacks in the kitchen to shampoo and conditioner in the bathrooms. The highlight of our stay was spending time on the patio and curled up on the couch.

The small print, in our own words.

  1. 01 We live around the corner — close enough to help within the hour, far enough that the cottage is entirely yours.
  2. 02 The 80 sq ft walk-in closet is rare for a cottage this size — bring as much as you'd like.
  3. 03 A two-car garage is available when not in use by the hosts. Street parking is free and easy.
  4. 04 Dogs are welcome with a refundable deposit. Treats and a water bowl are waiting.
  5. 05 You'll arrive to a starter pantry — olive oil, Peet's coffee, kosher salt — and a printed map of our favorite blocks.

Heather Bellevue, WA · Oct 2025
"The house has historic charm, while also being modern, with thoughtful and higher-end touches. Most rentals do not have this level of quality — each day we relaxed in the lovely backyard with coffee."
